The 1st edition of this two-volume book deals with anesthesia for neurosurgical conditions and intensive care management of neurosurgical and neurological conditions. The 2nd volume is dedicated to neurocritical care.
This book begins with basic information on the principles of neurocritical care. Management of various neurologic problems such as myasthenia gravis, guillain barre syndrome, epilepsy, stroke and many more are discussed in detail. In a special section, topics related to nursing care, physiotherapy and psychological care of these patients have also been discussed. Issues related to brain death and organ donation have been covered in a separate chapter. A section has been dedicated to common complications observed in neurologic patients during their stay in the intensive care unit. Each complication has been discussed in details and would be helpful to the readers in their clinical practice. Some of the current topics such as role of hypothermia and evidence based practice have also been dealt within chapters towards the end of this volume.

Dr. Hemanshu Prabhakar is a Professor in Department of Neuroanaesthesiology and Critical Care at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, India. He received his training in neuroanesthesia and completed his PhD in the same institute. He is the first Indian to be admitted to the degree of PhD in the country. He is a recipient of the AIIMS Excellence award for notable contribution in academics and has more than 200 publications in peer-reviewed national and international journals to his credit. Dr. Prabhakar is a reviewer for various national and international journals. He is also a review author for the Cochrane Collaboration and has a special interest in evidence-based practice of neuroanesthesia. Dr. Prabhakar is a member of various national and international neuroanesthesia societies and is past secretary of the Indian Society of Neuroanesthesia and Critical Care. He is an invited faculty for various national and international conferences. He is on the editorial board of the Indian Journal of Palliative Care and is the executive editor of the Journal of Neuroanaesthesiology and Critical Care. He is the first Indian to publish international books in the speciality of neuroanesthesia.
Dr. Zulfiqar Ali is working as an Associate Professor in the Division of Neuroanesthesiology and Neurocritical Care at Sher-I-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences, Srinagar, India. He received his training in neuroanesthesia from All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi and National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences, Bengaluru. His areas of interest include neurocritical care and chronic pain management. He has many publications in peer-reviewed national and international journals to his credit. He is associate editor of the Indian Journal of Anesthesia and co-editor of Northern Journal of ISA. Dr. Ali is a reviewer for various national and international journals. He is a member of various national and international neuroanesthesia societies and is past executive committee member of the Indian Society of Neuroanesthesia and Critical Care. He has delivered numerous guest lectures in various national and international conferences.
