Author Bio
Englishman Simon Grayson has worked for more than 10 years in Spain as a film and photography researcher. During that time, while digging into archives all over the country mainly for UK book publishers, he repeatedly came across what he described as fascinating photographs of the British living and working in Spain. These photographs, some of them going back to the early 19th century, gave him the idea to compile a pictorial record of the British presence in Spain from 1830 to 1965, and that was how this book The Spanish Attraction was conceived. The first 40 or so photographs were relatively easy to find because he remembered where he had seen them while researching other books, but it took him another two years to gather in the rest of the material that he felt was needed to complete the book. The text was edited by Englishman David Mitchell, author of several books on Spain, including The Spanish Civil War and Travellers in Spain.
