It has long been observed that systems of conservation laws written in the Lagrange variable offer a good alternative for the numerical computation of approximate solutions. In this monograph we seek to develop a systematic presentation of the use of the Lagrange variable for the analysis and discretization of systems of conservation laws arising in continuum mechanics.

From the reviews: This book is concerned with the mathematical analysis of the systems of nonlinear conservation laws that appear in the modeling of compressible and incompressible flows . it can be profitably used as a textbook for master s and Ph.D. courses. This text is clearly written, with a well-balanced choice of the topics. Many remarks help the reader in understanding the subtleties of the theory. The reading of this book will be surely useful for students, researchers and colleagues. (Alberto Valli, Mathematical Reviews, Issue 2011 f)
