Here is a collection of great ideas for contemporary stitching. Embroidered items are everywhere on the high street on clothes and more. Much of this is easily created at home and will be adored by young trendy things!

There are 20 designs that can all be transformed into many other items. Most of them can be worked on clothing which gives the fashion conscious the scope to create a unique look. There are plenty of inspirational projects for even the uninitiated stitcher.

There is a smattering of different techniques and modern methods that seem effortless and will not seem out of the orindary for a new stitcher at all. Stumpwork, for example, is only daunting if someone tells you that it is! One project looks at machine embroidery, one uses a computer printer but in the main you will just need a needle and thread.

Ideal to give to a reticent or young stitcher, it also has some eye-opening designs for more experienced embroideries looking for something a little bit different.

This book is billed as having '20 contemporary projects embellished with thread' and it certainly does what it says on the tin - the projects range from thimbles to frames, mittens to guitar pick covers! If you're looking for up-to-date, colourful, light and funky ideas then this book is a must. Although it contains just a small section on bead embroidery, we soon found lots of ways beads could be added to the projects. We felt the book was worth the money just for the clear, easy to follow instructions and many design and finishing ideas it contains.
