Synopsis

Brecon Beacons Trail Running is a comprehensive guide to off-road running across the national park, including the Black Mountains, the Brecon Beacons themselves and the Black Mountain. With 20 runs from 5.3km to 17.5km in length, this book is suitable for runners of all abilities. The hills and valleys of the Brecon Beacons offer a wide variety of running, all sharing the same mountainous scenery and stunning views in this beautiful part of South Wales. Local authors Lily Dyu and John Price have compiled many of their favourite runs, including accessible loops around Carreg Cennen Castle and Table Mountain, through to big days out around Fan y Big, Pen y Fan and Fan Brycheiniog. Summit the Sugar Loaf and The Blorenge on the outskirts of Abergavenny, explore the waterfalls by Ystradfellte, or trace the Cat's Back along the Welsh-English border; there's something for everyone. Each route features clear and easy-to-use Ordnance Survey 1:25,000 maps, easy-to-follow directions, details of distance and timings, and refreshment stops and local knowledge.

Author Bio
Lily Dyu is a writer and a runner based near the book town of Hay-on-Wye. Her childhood was spent in Ireland and the north-west of England and her love for the outdoors grew from studying geology during a natural sciences degree. She started running in her twenties and since then the sport has taken her from pounding the pavements around the University of Birmingham to running around Manaslu, the world's eighth-highest mountain, in Nepal. Lily still enjoys the buzz of a big-city marathon, but she is always happiest spending time with friends, beneath open skies, and preferably in lumpy places. John Price is a solicitor and a (very moderate) fell runner who hates running up hills - but loves coming down them! After growing up on a Herefordshire farm, he moved away early in his career but now lives once again near Hay-on-Wye, spending countless days roaming over the hills and mountains of Mid and South Wales, and finishing near the back of the field in numerous races. He has taken top podium place in the first running of a local race (before anyone else knew about it) and was also proud winner of a pineapple at the 2017 Skirrid race (but sadly not for his running prowess). A keen mountain-marathon competitor, he has camped in boggy fields all around the country in an unfeasibly small tent and always returns with amusing stories of derring-do and misadventure.
