The Wardrobe Monster

The Wardrobe Monster

by Bryony Thomson (Author), Bryony Thomson (Illustrator)

Synopsis

What's that knocking sound coming from the wardrobe? Every night, it makes Dora and her toy friends afraid to go to bed and every morning they are grumpy through lack of sleep. Eventually, they summon up the courage to face their fear together and open the wardrobe door... what falls out provides a humorous and reassuring story for all children who imagine monsters in the darkness. With a sympathetically drawn cast of characters, debut author-illustrator Bryony taps into a childhood fear and converts it into a tale of mutual support. Gently funny, 'The Wardrobe Monster' is a perfect bedtime read.

Media Reviews
A charming story of bedtime fears with a neat twist to it... Nicely scary as well as appropriately reassuring. (A Julia Eccleshare Pick of the Month April 2018). -- Julia Eccleshare * LoveReading4Kids * Sublimely illustrated and beautifully told, this story offers reassurance to children who may worry about noises and darkness at bedtime. -- Jo Clarke * BookloverJo blog * Thomson's book is delightful in its premise, but most particularly in its illustrations and depiction of Dora and her soft toys. They are as lifelike as Woody and Buzz, and infected with as much personality as Pooh, Eeyore and friends. The Wardrobe Monster is Bryony Thomson's debut picture book, and from this superb start, it's easy to see that she'll go far... Beguiling and comforting, this is an adorable and pleasurably happy read. -- Clare Zinkin * MinervaReads blog * This delightful picture book features endearing characters, unique and vibrant illustrations, with a universal theme at its heart. -- Victoria Dilly * Book Activist blog * There are so many lessons and important messages within this story, making it brilliant for classroom discussion. But The Wardrobe Monster is just a delightful, bright and fun story which will make young children smile, and that's what it's all about really, isn't it? -- Alexis Filby * BookMonsters blog * The smudgy nature of Bryony's superbly expressive illustrations makes her characters all the more huggably adorable - even the one responsible for the scary noises. -- Jill Bennett * Red Reading Hub blog * Its fluid, friendly illustrations (they reminded me a little of illustration by Rebecca Cobb) and funny story full of understanding are just lovely. -- Zoe Toft * Playing by the Book blog * This is a charming book with a real feel-good vibe but the real triumph, for me at any rate, is the quality of the illustration. This is Bryony Thomson's first picture book and it's a belter. -- Karen Argent * The Letterpress Project blog *
