Mind Your Head: An Emotional Intelligence Guide for School Leaders

Mind Your Head: An Emotional Intelligence Guide for School Leaders

by David Boddy (Author)

Synopsis

At a time when recent governments continue to suffocate head teachers in a sea of bureaucratic initiatives, this book encourages educational leaders to be adventurous, distinctive and above all independent. David Boddy calls on his 30-year passion for philosophy and meditation to inspire heads and aspiring heads to manage the enormous mental and emotional challenges of the job, while still reaching for the best in all around them. Mind Your Head encourages readers to challenge their experiences both as head teachers and more importantly as lead teachers, to educate and to inspire those whose lives they touch on a daily basis: colleagues, parents and, first and foremost, pupils.

Media Reviews
Wonderfully refreshing, thought-provoking and most importantly, steeped in a personal self-reflective honesty which manages to offer advice without ever being patronising. - Gerry Holden, Chairman of the Professional Development Committee of The Society of Heads
Author Bio
David Boddy was at first a reluctant head master. He came to the role after a life in journalism, politics, business and charity work. His passion for more than 30 years has been philosophy and meditation. He has lectured widely on Advaita Vedanta, a key source of Eastern wisdom, and Platonic thought, both of which he regards as practical inspirations in leadership and daily life. St James Senior Boys School is based in Ashford, Surrey. Meditation and philosophy are core aspects of the curriculum and school life. He is a Trustee of the Education Renaissance Trust and Founder of the Lucca Leadership organisation, a world-wide charity for young people teaching community leadership skills. He is married with three sons, six grandchildren (so far) and a belief that teaching, and headship is a God-calling. In 2012 he was inaugurated Chairman of the Society of Heads.
