We Need to Talk About Education

We Need to Talk About Education

by Ben Faccini (Author), Greg Villalobos (Author)

Synopsis

When we talk about education, it's easy to lose track of the human element: the stories behind the statistics; the people behind the stories. In this ground-breaking work, author Ben Faccini and film-maker Greg Villalobos have combined to give young people a voice, through interviews and workshops. The result is a unique picture, sometimes disturbing, often inspiring, of what young people want from education, what stands in their way, and the difference a teacher can make. It includes an introduction by Meryl Noronha, one of the Teach First teachers featured in the BBC3 documentary 'Tough Young Teachers'.

Author Bio
Greg Villalobos has spent over a decade working with young people at the fringes of mainstream society. In 2004 he co-founded Bold Creative, a digital agency that helps organisations campaign with and on behalf of the young people they serve, winning numerous awards in the process. He has a long running relationship with Teach First, and contributes to many of its campaigns. Ben Faccini worked in education for a United Nations agency, and went on to write extensively on issues in the developing world, particularly street children, working children and innovations in education. He is writer-inresidence at a London school for First Story, a charity which fosters literacy and creativity in young people from challenging schools. Meryl Noronha appeared in the six-part BBC 3 documentary Teaching Impossible. The programme charted her own journey from being a pupil at an underfunded state school in a deprived London borough, to a graduate and Teach First teacher.
