by Anne Kyyro Quinn (Author)
One of the first designers to rediscover felt and update it for the contemporary interior, Finnish-born Anne Kyyro Quinn broke fresh ground when she used the material to pioneer a new range of uniquely 'structural' textiles. Resembling artworks more than conventional fabrics, her creations push our perception of textiles to the limit. Cut, sewn and finished by hand, her beautifully crafted furnishings are designed to harmonize timelessly with any interior - key characteristics are simplicity, bold colours, rich textures and striking motifs. For Felt Furnishings Anne has created 25 stunning designs for contemporary home furnishings and accessories, all of which feature the key trademarks of her style: boldness combined with simplicity, rich texture and 3D surface structure. The projects can be made using heavy woven wools and simple craft felt, which are readily available by metre from most fabric and hobby craft shops. Anne Kyyro Quinn established her studio in 1999 with a portfolio of six core designs and a basic range of interior products. One of her first lighting designs was licensed to Innermost, and her interior textiles were purchased by retail outlets such as Roche Bobois, Selfridges and The Conran Shop. She soon opened a showroom where clients could view her product range and shop for readymade designs.
