Glenise Borthwick began teaching in 1979 at Vale of Leven Academy in West Dunbartonshire after graduating in English and Communications and armed with a teaching certificate from Jordanhill and Diploma in Education from Glasgow University. She taught until the early 90s then joined the Educational Institute of Scotland, eventually working as a full time trade union convener for teachers in West Dunbartonshire. She then moved to Edinburgh and joined the General Teaching Council for Scotland, initially as their Investigating Officer, and then Communications Officer. She is now Head of Communications with the Council.
