Media Reviews
For any Leeds fans unfamiliar with the club's glory years of the mid-60s to mid-70s, Match of My Life - Leeds United is definitely one of the best ways of getting all the inside information and individual accounts of this fabulous era. Saffer lets the former heroes talk you through their favourite game in their own words, with each chapter dedicated to one glorious game in the club's history. And the beauty of this book is that every account is written in such a style you genuinely feel like the players are sitting down in the pub with you and recalling their heydays over a pint. Once the Revie era has been wrapped up, there are further chapters dedicated to some more modern stars, such as Chris Fairclough recalling Leeds' title triumph in 1992, Dominici Matteo on Leeds' brilliant 3-2 win at Highbury which ensured survival in 2003, and, most recently, Paul Butler and the thrilling 4-3 win at Southampton in December 2005. But it is the way in which this book brilliantly taps into the Revie years which makes this such an essential read to fans of Leeds United of any generation. The Revie years may well be long gone, but thanks to Saffer, they will now certainly not be forgotten - James Marshment, Sporting Life. The Match of My Life series provides a captivating collection of first-person accounts by former footballers of their careers and in particular the most memorable match they played in. There are archive pictures and statistics on each player before the players entertain us with anecdotes and memories of classic matches. The Leeds United edition, edited by David Saffer, includes recollections from fourteen club legends such as Peter Lorimer, Terry Cooper, David Wetherall, Eddie Gray, Mel Sterland and Allan Clarke. With a foreword by Paul Dews this is another worthwhile read from the Know The Score stable - Nathan Davies, The Association of Football Statisticians.
