by David Clayton (Author)

Synopsis

Show me a hero and I will write you a tragedy - F Scott Fitzgerald. Who is your favourite Manchester City Cult Hero? Goater, Lee, Bell, Kinkladze, Dickov or Wright-Phillips? The likes of Frank Swift, Paul Lake, Dennis Tueart, Bert Trautmann, Ian Bishop, Andy Morrison and Niall Quinn all join the illustrious cast list as David searches for the very heartbeat of a club obsessed with the way the game is played, but bereft of trophies for so long. Media Reviews
These well-written biographies are especially pertinent as Manchester City programme editor Dave Clayton compiles them with love, affection and detail. Players featured include Frank Swift, Dennis Tueart, Uwe Rosler, Shaun Goater and Ian Bishop among others. With a foreword by Shaun Wright-Phillips this is a must for all Manchester City fans - Nathan Davies, The Association of Football Statisticians. When you read a title like 'Cult Heroes' the thing that gets on my wick most of the time is that they're not cult heroes in the true sense, but often the genuine legends, so it's good to see a book featuring some genuine cult heroes, from a club that's almost made for them. Peter 'the Great' Doherty (no, not that one), Paul Lake, Gerry Gow, Ian Bishop, Niall Quinn, Uwe Rosler are among those who feature. Even that never to be forgotten man mountain Andy Morrison gets a section, which is great to see alongside footballing legends such as Mike Summerbee and Dennis Tueart. Well worth a read, even if you're not a City fan - Midfielddynamo.com.
