by Frank Muir (Author)
St. Andrews, Scotland, has become home to the most vicious serial killer Britain has ever known. Striking only during thunderstorms, choosing only victims who abuse women, the Stabber has Detective Inspector Andy Gilchrist and his team baffled until victim number six turns up in the form of a respected bank manager, Bill Granton. A surprise witness gives Gilchrist and his partner, the embittered Detective Sergeant Sa Preston, their first solid lead to the Stabber's identity. However, the uproar from the media gives Gilchrist's boss, the hateful Detective Chief Inspector Mark Patterson, his golden opportunity to suspend Gilchrist and bring in the Scottish Crime Squad. Driven by his fear of failure, desperate to redeem his reputation, Gilchrist takes on the case alone. The novel reworks the genre of simple revenge thriller and adds a real psychological depth to proceedings.

Detective Rebus has a new rival who's cleaner living and better looking than the hard-drinking cop. Gilchrist is a 'tall Tom Cruise'. THE SUN
Everything I look for in a crime novel. Louise Welsh.
Rebus did it for Edinburgh. Laidlaw did it for Glasgow. Gilchrist might just be the bloke to put St Andrews on the crime fiction map. DAILY RECORD
...a book which seeks to play with the reader's expectations of what a crime novel is supposed to be. THE LIST
Born in Glasgow fifty-plus years ago and plagued from a young age with the urge to see more of the world than the rain sodden slopes of the Campsie Fells. Twenty-five years of working overseas helped him appreciate the raw beauty of his home country. Now a dual US/UK citizen, Frank visits Scotland from time to time to sample its beers and its national food, Indian curry (didn't that used to be fish and chips?), and to visit St. Andrews and write crime stories suffused with dark alleyways and cobbled streets and some things gruesome. Frank is currently in the States working on his next novel.
