by David Joy (Author), David Joy (Author), John Morgan (Author)
This book began as a series of lengthy and memorable interviews that David Joy had with Fred Trueman in the first half of 2006. They were intended to form the basis of a collection of his humorous tales of life on and off the pitch. Then came Fred's untimely death, and it soon became apparent that many of his sporting colleagues and close friends wished to contribute to a work now clearly destined to form a tribute to a remarkable man. John Morgan, the sports journalist who knew Fred over many years, has accordingly written a greatly enlarged text about one of England's true cricketing heroes. The tributes in the first section The Man with a Million Fans, are expressed in their own words by those who contributed them. Trueman's Tales , the title originally envisaged for the book and the one agreed with Fred, has been retained. The Tales are now not only those told by Fred, but also embrace the many more tales and memories told about a much-loved Yorkshireman. The book is illustrated throughout with many remarkable photographs that evocatively recall Fred Trueman at his very best.
