Synopsis

In 1996, the centenary year of the institution of the Royal Victorian Order and the Royal Victorian Medal, Volume l of Royal Service was published. It recorded the history of the Order, the Medal and the Royal Victorian Chain and all substantive appointments of the Order and substantive awards of the medal. It also recorded all holders of the Royal Victorian Chain. Volume ll completes that history, bringing the appoint-ments and awards up to date and recording all honorary appointments to the Order and all honorary awards of the medal. It also includes the history of the Royal Family Orders, and an account of various medals and badges of office connected with the Royal Households.

Author Bio
Henry Pownall is a retired Circuit Judge. He was educated at Rugby and Trinity College, Cambridge, and is a member of the Orders and Medals Research Society. James Charles Risk has written a number of articles on British and foreign Orders, and in 1977 he was made a Commander of the Royal Victorian Order. David Stanley works for Sotheby's. In 1975 he was invited to assist in maintaining the collection of Orders and medals at Windsor Castle. John Tamplin has been a member of the Orders and Medals Research Society since 1949. He has written a number of publications and was also responsible for cataloguing the royal collection of specimen medals.
