by StellaBlackstone (Author), StellaBlackstone (Author)

Synopsis

Join Valette, the Gallery Cat, as he takes his two young friends Adam and Lizzy on a trip to the local art gallery. Adam and Lizzy think art galleries 'are worse than school', until Valette opens their eyes to the pictures around them and encourages them to explore and appreciate the paintings in a completely new light. Illustrated by Tony Ross, this gallery guide was produced in partnership with Manchester Art Gallery, but the text, enhanced by the traditional and contemporary pictures featured within, is appropriate for children all over the country and will foster a love of art in even the most sceptical of young critics!

Author Bio
Stella Blackstone lives in rural southwest England. An established Barefoot Books author, she has over twenty titles to her credit, among them the best-selling An Island in the Sun (2002), Secret Seahorse (2003) and the popular Bear series. Tony Ross has a particular fondness for Manchester Art Gallery, as he courted his girlfriend - now wife - there. He created the illustrations featured within this book for the Gallery's reopening in 2002, which followed their four-year programme of expansion and refurbishment. Tony trained at the Liverpool School of Art and has worked as a cartoonist, a graphic designer, an Art Director of an advertising agency and as Senior Lecturer in Art at Manchester Polytechnic. Having illustrated many contemporary authors as well as re-illustrating many classics, multi-award-winning Tony Ross has become one of the best-known contemporary creators of original and traditional picture books and his work has been published all over the world.
