Synopsis

Spain's vibrant and colourful past is as exciting to discover as is taking a fresh look at the tumultuous upheavals of the 20th century. "A Traveller's History of Spain" aims to unlock the secrets of the country, its people and culture for the interested traveller. Juan Lalaguna takes the reader on a journey from the earliest settlements on the Iberian peninsula, through the influences of the Romans, the Goths and the Muslims, the traumas of expansion and the end of Empire, the surge for national identity - right up to the current dilemmas that face post-Franco Spain. "The Traveller's History" series is designed for anyone who feels they need more background information on the country they are staying in than can be found in a guide. There is an extensive gazetteer, cross-referenced with the main text which pinpoints the importance of sites and towns. Illustrated with maps and line drawings, "A Traveller's History of Spain" is a useful companion for a trip to Spain.
