by Gambero Rosso (Author)
The sixteenth edition of 'Italian Wines', published by Gambero Rosso and Slow Food Editore, a translation of the twenty-fifth edition of the Italian version, is the world's most complete guide to quality Italian wines. More than 70 tasters travelled around Italy all year long, searching for the best bottles. The tastings - all blind - took place in consortiums and local chambers of commerce and were supported by experts in the sector, sommeliers and trade operators. The guide is organised in a very simple, clear and functional way. First, there is a section that identifies the winery - name, address, number of hectares of vineyard, method of cultivation (conventional, organic, biodynamic or natural). Then, the entry tells the story of the winery and the territory where it is situated. Finally, the guide describes the wines, which are evaluated by the celebrated method of Bicchieri, or glasses, ranging from one to a maximum of Tre Bicchieri. The guide also pays special attention to wineries that are sensitive to the environment and to achieving naturalness in their products, awarding Tre Bicchieri Verdi to bottles that come from those with a particular regard for the environment.
