Travellers recorded include the scientist Joseph Banks, who revealed Fingal's Cave to the public, and Johnson and Boswell, who nearly drowned off Ardnamurchan and whose writings encouraged many others to discover the Hebrides for themselves, including Sir Walter Scott and Queen Victoria.
