Halifax and the Calder Valley (Railway Memories)

Halifax and the Calder Valley (Railway Memories)

by StephenChapman (Editor), JackWild (Author)

Synopsis

This work takes us back to a time when the railways of Calderdale (West Yorkshire) carried top link express trains, Saturday excursions packed with holidaymakers bound for Blackpool and the east coast, and a seemingly endless procession of freight trains; when Heckmondwike, Cleckheaton, Ripponden, Queensbury and Dewsbury's market place were all served by the railway network, and when Mytholmroyd, Sowerby Bridge and Mirfield were important railway centres. The first chapter sets the scene by outlining the development and decline of Calderdale's railways, as well as the passenger and freight services operating over its tracks.
