Sailing with Mohammed

Sailing with Mohammed

by TonyFarrington (Author)

Synopsis

Setting sail for foreign shores is an irresistible urge that few yachties can resist, and if you don't have a boat to hand you can experience a fascinating part of the world through Tony Farrington's eyes. In Sailing with Mohammed he shares his experiences collected during a series of voyages that took him and his family through mostly Muslim countries in the southwestern Pacific and the Indian Ocean. They then set sail for the Mediterranean shortly after the events of September 11, 2001. Read about burial traditions on the island Sulawesi, Komodo dragons, gunfire in Sri Lanka, moonwashed dolphins, high-seas piracy, not to mention leaks, kit failures and lethal cyclones. All humanity is here, from beggars and fellow Kiwi crews to harbourmasters and princes (many of whom wear the name Mohammed). Tony's observations on these characters and on Islam itself are sharp, sincere, chilling and funny in turn; they are just one ingredient of an entertaining travel account which will appeal to all who enjoy a sailing yarn and will strike a chord with anyone who has experienced first-hand the warmth of hospitality in Asia.
