Author Bio
Maeve Binchy was born in Dublin, and went to school at Holy Child Convent in Killiney. She took a history degree a Ucd and taught in various girls' schools, writing travel articles in the long summer holidays. In 1969 she joined the Irish Times, and has written humorous columns from London and all over the world. The Peacock Theatre in Dublin was the scene of her two stage plays, End Of Term and Half Promised Land, and her television play, Deeply Regretted By, won two Jacobs Awards and the Best Script Award at the Prague Film festival. Binchy is the author of four other volumes of short stories, London Transport, Dublin 4, The Lilac Bus and Silver Wedding. She is also the author of a number of best-selling novels, Light A Penny Candle, Echoes, Firefly Summer, Circle Of Friends, The Copper Beech and The Glass Lake. Her books have been adapted for television and cinema. She is married to the writer and broadcaster Gordon Snel
