Big Walls

Big Walls

by ReinholdMessner (Author)

Synopsis

Illustrated throughout with colour photographs, this title aims to offer inspirational, informative and useful reading for climbers, mountaineers and all those interested in adventure travel. The Big Walls are the royal discipline in mountaineering terms. They embody all the things that make climbing what it is - size, scale, difficulty, exposure, remoteness, and the reduction of equipment to a minimum. Challenging walls can be found the world over: in the Himalayas, the Karakorum and the Alps for example. Here Reinhold Messner presents detailed information on 50 walls, showing a new generation of climbers where the big challenges and remaining climbing problems may be encountered.

Reinhold Messner can justifiably be described as the world's greatest living adventurer. In 1970 he climbed his first Himalayan peak, Nanga Parbat, and over the next sixteen years conquered all the world's 8,000-metre peaks, becoming the first man to do so. He has written many books on his exploits including All 14 Eight Thousanders and To the Top of the World for Crowood.
