Rock 'til You Drop

Rock 'til You Drop

by JohnStrausbaugh (Author)

Synopsis

In the 1960s and early 70s rock and rebellion went arm in arm. This was the generation that angrily refused to grow up or settle down. The Who captured the zeitgeist with precision: 'I hope I die before I get old'. Yet many of these icons of rebellion didn't die, and continue to limp on ...and on. In the current climate of musical retrospection, the jaded spectres of rock and roll fame haunt the limelight. Strausbaugh reflects acidly on a generation that started our as self-anointed world-changers and ended up as short changed of the ideals that were the genesis of their art. Cholostomy rock has arrived and it's not a pretty sight.

Media Reviews
There's quick and lite cultural journalism; there's bitter and snarky journalism; and there's joyless, preening, homeworky 'cultural studies' of the academy. And then there's John Strausbaugh, who unerrignly gets it just right: smart and high-spirited, funny and open-hearted, a subtle and companionable mind with a palpable zest for celebrating the good and slagging the bad. --Kurt Anderson John Strausbaugh warns us not to french kiss today's rock and roll because you don't know where she's been. But he's still optimistic about her kids. Look here, and wait (and play) and see. --Tuli Kupferberg
