Synopsis

Orienteering is a sport that combines physical fitness, mental skills and the ability to navigate. Author Bio
Author Ian Bratt started orienteering at school in the United Kingdom and since 1971 has competed regularly in events in that country. After emigrating to South Africa in 1981, he joined a group of other immigrants to start the sport there and is currently president of the South African Orienteering Society (1996 to date). In addition to competing in and winning events, he has also managed orienteering teams for world championships, controlled events and mapped out areas for championships. He is presently manager of the South African orienteering team for the world championships in Finland in 2001. Consultant Ned Paul has been involved with orienteering for over 30 years as competitor, journalist and administrator. He has orienteered in more than 25 different countries. In 1979 he founded CompassSport magazine which became the official magazine of the British Orienteering Federation and the largest circulation English-language orienteering periodical. He edited CompassSport continuously until 1998. He has served on the governing Council of the BOF and on the Press and Publicity Committee of the International Orienteering Federation.
