Rock 'n' Roll London

by Max Wooldridge (Author), Max Wooldridge (Author), Malcolm McLaren (Foreword)

Synopsis

Travelling through London's most influential and key areas from the outer limits of suburbia right through to the heartland of Soho and Carnaby Street, this guide takes an intimate musical journey right to the very core of London's rock 'n' roll heritage. It takes you through the key areas of the city from the skiffle bands of the 50s through the beat, punk, psychedelia, Britpop, mods and rockers and club music - the quintessential bands, venues, places and events that shaped the trail-blazing pop history of the capital of cool. From Ace to Zappa, from the Astoria to the Zd Bar, London's rock scene - past and present - is explored through venues, clubs, people and places throughout the city. The bars, record shops, cafes and areas are all considered. The book covers such questions as where did the Beatles play their last gig, where did Hendrix die and where are the Abbey Road Studios? Locator maps and full contact and access details are also provided.
