Using the views of consumers of bereavement services to discover what their opinions are as to the effectiveness of the bereavement counselling service, this study interviewed 60 recently widowed people soon after their bereavement counselling ended. A number of conclusions and recommendations are drawn such as the need for training and support for the doctors and nurses responsible for breaking bad news. Also explored is the confusion which lies in the terminology between bereavement and professional counselling.
