by JohnTaylor (Author)
In this book John Taylor, the M.P. for Solihull, recalls wartime Hampton-in-Arden, where he was born, his education, something of his career as a Solicitor and rather more of his career as a politician. Without rancour, he tells us how his beloved Conservative Party initially and successively rejected him by turn as an approved election candidate for Local Government, the European Parliament and the House of Commons. He goes on to recount his experiences as a Solihull Borough Councillor, as Leader of the West Midlands County Council and as Deputy Leader of the Conservative Group in the European Parliament. Then, having been elected M.P. for Solihull, he describes being a Whip in Government under Margaret Thatcher and a Minister in Government in the Lord Chancellor's Department and in the Department of Trade and Industry. He also gives us an insight into some of his other interests: ancient monuments, cricket, golf and islands.
