Down Yonder at the Back End

Down Yonder at the Back End

by PeggyE.Ellard (Author)

Synopsis

The author's avowed intent in writing this memoir is to show how much our culture has changed with the passing years. She has succeeded admirably. Born in London in 1924, into a hardworking and respectable ordinary family, Peggy and her twin brother accepted life as it came. They moved house many times and lost their father and elder brother, but that was how life was in those days and stoicism was expected. Before the outbreak of war Peggy had a variety of employments and was sent to East Anglia when things became too hot in London. Her descriptions of life as an evacuee are hilarious. Eventually after the war Peggy married and had children and she is now a proud grandmother and great-grandmother. One can only admire her resilience, compassion, humour and honesty in recalling a life that was not always a bed of roses - whose is?
