CELEBRATION OF VICTORY V E DAY 1945

by R.M.Connaughton (Author)

Synopsis

This volume is a record of the celebration of victory at the of World War II in Europe. As circumstances would show, the celebration of this victory was rather more than bonfires, street parties, a day of dancing and the opportunity to kiss strangers. The victory had been anticipated and, to some degree, it was anti-climatic. There were also those who had relatives being reorganized to take the fight to Japan. Setting all that aside, VE Day was in important maker in the nation's political, social and military history. It offered to the nation's disadvantaged a more equitable share in the life, the wealth and the decision-making processes in a re-born country. VE Day also emphasized the decline in Britain's fortune from that apogee in June 1944 when she had a major role in the D-Day landings. The book describes the causes and conduct of World War II, and gives readers an account of V-E Day. Then, with the help of Lords Carrington, Healey and Pym, the book analyzes the vision of the future people had in 1945, and the extent to which that vision was subsequently fulfilled.
