  This guide to international events and their implications contains essays which provide an in-depth analysis for an interpretation of worldwide strategic trends. The material is organized both thematically (for example, arms control, strategic policy issues) and geographically. The events of 1993 and the first quarter of 1994 are evaluated and their consequences examined. The book covers the strategic importance of a number of current issues: the challenge of militant Islam; the arms race in East Asia; arms control and nuclear proliferation; demobilization, demilitarization and peacekeeping; and human rights and international security. Each geographic area (the Americas, Europe, the Middle East, East Asia, South and Central Asia, and Africa) are reviewed.
