Terry Farrell, a world leader in urban design and one of Britain's foremost architects, has worked on high-profile building schemes and masterplans in cities as diverse as Seattle, London and Seoul. The large body of work generated by his practice in 35 years comprises art galleries, exhibition spaces, museums, commercial and retail developments, banks, housing, industrial buildings and transportation centres. This volume focuses on the work of Terry Farrell & Partners from 1991 to 2001. Each of the ten chapters is devoted to a city where they have worked on a large-scale project - from Beijing, Edinburgh and Hong Kong to Lisbon, London, Seoul and Sydney - with each location being presented as the embodiment of a particular aspect of masterplanning and urban design. The chapters begin with a brief outline of the history of the city and then go on to show how Farrell's diverse and dramatic buildings were developed, from earliest sketches to final construction. Illustrations, plans and sketches show each project in detail, as well as demonstrating the ways in which the architecture responds to its urban context.
