The 88 colour plates help the beginner to solve the most difficult problems of identification, and there are bibliographies on each species included. The author is a member of the British Birds Rarities Committee and the artist, Alan Harris, is joint Art Consultant to British Birds magazine. He was awarded the title Bird Illustrator of the Year in 1980.
