Gnomeland: An Introduction to the Little People

Gnomeland: An Introduction to the Little People

by Margaret Egleton (Author)

Synopsis

Welcome to the world of gnomes, a community of little people who have lived in our gardens for more than 150 years. They first appeared in Germany, from the roots of German folklore and migrated throughout Europe, to England and then to America and Down Under. During their travels, these gnomes have garnered much affection, becoming prized and decorated objects, and this book celebrates them in all their guises, from the friendly garden gnome to the post-card sending traveller to Fred the Afghanistan desert gnome, not forgetting the rude ones. Gnomes are 'so out there', they're 'in' again. Gnomes are featured in Amelie , The Full Monty , Coronation Street and will star in Gnomeo and Juliet , an animated film featuring Ewan McGregor and Kate Winslet, with songs by Elton John (Autumn 2008).

Author Bio
Once upon a time, long ago, in a city named Bradford, there was a girl who spent her time making plaster casts of Snow White's Seven Dwarfs. Her name was Margaret Egleton and she grew up to set up a website: www.gnomeland.co.uk. This website became the centre of the gnome fraternity, attracting stories and photographs from all over the world. Margaret began selling gnomes in 2005, the first to Florida and then Montana, and she is now known to her parcel depot as The Gnome Lady.
