ALL ABOUT TOUCH (All About Series)

by Irene Yates (Author), Jill Newton (Illustrator)

Synopsis

Exploring touch, this book which is one of a series is designed to encourage young children to examine closely the world around them. Through a simple and easy-to-read text it invites children to answer questions and to investigate and observe for themselves. It begins with a description of the five senses and an illustration of smooth, rough, knobbly and furry textures. It goes on to challenge the reader to touch something gently and decide if its textured, hot or cold, hard or soft? Fingers are specialy adapted to touch, what about toes? The reader is then asked to collect things that are smooth, prickly, spongy and knobbly. A spread deals with furry things and finally an experiment to check how the body reacts to cold by making the hairs stand on end. To explore touch instructions are given for the making of a furry ball; a test is made on a black and a white piece of cloth to decide which one feels warmest when left in the sun and there is a guessing by touch game.
