by Henrik Ibsen (Author), Stephen Mulrine (Translator)

Synopsis

Michael Pennington leads a nation-wide tour of Ibsen classic in brand new translation On the family estate outside Oslo at the turn of the 19th century, a man paces up and down an upstairs room. This is John Gabriel Borkman, once a famous entrepreneur, now reduced to penury and self-doubt following a prison sentence for embezzlement. His wife, her twin sister and his son are all entrapped in the claustrophobic atmosphere which has descended upon the household - and which can only lead to an explosion as the suffocation becomes unbearable...Michael Pennington will play Borkman in this brand new translation for English Touring Theatre by Stephen Mulrine, who also did their award-winning Ghosts with Diana Quick. John Gabriel Borkman visits eight cities between February and April 2003.
