Synopsis

Born in Strasbourg in 1965, Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster is the ninth artist to be invited to transform the massive space of the Turbine Hall in Tate Modern into an artwork of their own design. She came to public attention as an artist in France in the mid-1990s as part of a generation that included Pierre Huyghe and Philippe Parreno. Gonzalez-Foerster is best known for using light and sound to create immersive, interactive environments - typified in her critically acclaimed piece Seance de Shadows , which was displayed in the exhibition The World as a Stage at Tate Modern in 2007. Her interest in architecture, film and dramatically staged environments make her uniquely qualified to take on the challenge of the Unilever commission. This book, with dramatic installation photography and accessible text, will map out the project from start to completion.
