Hogarth the Painter

by ElizabethEinberg (Author)

Synopsis

Hogarth dominated the formative years of the British school in the 1730s and 1740s. Accompanying a display at the Tate Gallery in honour of the tercentenary of Hogarth's birth, this guide offers a survey of his painting career from the late 1720s to 1759, when he virtually ceased to paint, and is based on the Tate's own collection of works by Hogarth, supplemented by more than a dozen key paintings from public and private collections. The Indian Emperor , Captain Coram and Mr and Mrs Garrick are those included.
