Gardens for the 21st Century

Gardens for the 21st Century

by Anita Pereire (Author)

Synopsis

Using examples of the work of contemporary garden designers from five continents. Anita Periere illustrates a wide variety of innovative themes and inventive ideas which point the way towards the gardens of the future. Over fifty gardens are described and illustrated, ranging from organic and grass gardens to sculpture gardens, water gardens and gardens inspired by the Japanese tradition. Some of them, such as Charles Jencks' cosmologically-inspired earthworks, or Princess Sturdza's organic garden at Vasterival, are already well known; others - Margot Knox's mosaic garden in Australia, for example, or Leo A. Daly's town garden in Washington D. C. - will come as a revelation to most readers. What they all share is the capacity to inspire and stimulate the imagination of all who love gardens and gardening.
