  Jack Schitt is a fictional character. He always wanted to be Phillip Marlowe but could never quite muster the hard drinking ('that ginger beer seemed to have gone right to my head'), lacked the physical stature (5' 6 in his cubans) and stumbled over the wisecracking patter ('She had the kind of legs that went from...er, her arse to her...er, feet'). But he could do all the detective work that small-town Wisconsin could throw at him: spying on errant husbands, finding stray dogs, verifying employment histories...And he does plan to take up smoking...
