The Art of Stained Glass Made Easy

The Art of Stained Glass Made Easy

by Barry Bier (Author)

Synopsis

Coloured glass, solder and lead have grown increasingly expensive with the result that Barry Bier devised a method of creating stained glass art that involves applying adhesive and liquid lead to a single sheet of glass. The different areas of the design are then coloured in with transparent glass paints, covered with a coating of frost texture (to give the colours the luminosity seen in traditional stained glass) and sealed with yacht varnish to protect the colours against sunlight and scratches. This new process is easy to learn and even children can produce many of the similar items, such as the light-catchers. Step-by-step instructions clearly define this new medium and full details are given on how to solder (some of the more complicated objects, such the jewellery box, lamps and so on, require mininal soldering to piece the panels together). Full colour photographs illustrate many of the stained glass objects that can be made.
