Child Language

Child Language

by Michelle Aldridge (Editor)

Synopsis

This book comprises seventeen of the papers presented at the Child Language Seminar, University of Wales, Bangor 1994. The aim of the conference was to further understanding of all areas of children's language development and, accordingly, the discussions here are diverse while contributing to this goal. Professor Andrew Radford, University of Essex, was a guest speaker and his paper 'The Nature of Children's Initial Clauses' is in this collection. Other papers give an international perspective to current developments in child language research with contributions from British Columbia, Geneva, Italy and The Netherlands accompanying those from Britain. Papers fall into broad categories such as bilingualism, comprehension, computer modelling of language acquisition, exceptional language and literacy, language disorders, phonological development, syntactic development and sign language. The book will be of interest to anyone with experience in child language development. There is much to offer here for postgraduates and academics concerned with theoretical aspects of language acquisition, but equally, those working with practitioners such as child psychologists, paediatricians, speech therapists and teachers will also benefit from these discussions.
