TEACHNG CHILDRNS LITERATURE

TEACHNG CHILDRNS LITERATURE

by Geoff Fenwick (Author), G F E N W I C K (Author)

Synopsis

Many primary school teachers, particularly those who work in nursery and infant departments, might question whether literature can in fact be taught. The formal examination of children's literature is probably the issue which is the root cause for this uncertainty. Geoff Fenwick sets out to show that children's literature should and can be taught. Literature is now regarded as a core subject in the National Curriculum. Several aspects are tackled in this book. How teachers and therefore children can be made aware of what is available to them in terms of literature; how time can be usefully organized so that pupils have time to read; storytelling and a variety of other experiences that children need, to be able to respond to that they read; and neglected and under-developed aspects of children's literature, such as poetry and the links between literature and the media.
