Extra Special: For When Someone You Love Dies

Extra Special: For When Someone You Love Dies

by Anna Payne (Author)

Synopsis

The loss of a family member or special friend is something we all struggle to come to terms with - not least when the bereavement is also experienced by a young child. Extra Special enables parents, carers, schools and others to help children through a time of bereavement.

The story focuses on Ben and Fiona, who love to visit their elderly friend Theo. They delight in spending time poring over Theo's collection of Extra Special Things in a small, cluttered room in his house. Their favourite item is a butterfly, studded with precious jewels. It is Ben and Fiona's love of this butterfly that teaches them how we sometimes have to release back to their `owner' even those things that are extra special to us.

`Extra Special' also includes guidelines for adults written by Simon Says, a charity that works with bereaved children or those whose close family members are dying.

Author Bio
Anna Payne now lives in Winchester with her husband and three children. Her childhood, however, was very unusual as she was born in Papua New Guinea. She returned to Britain when she was nine years old, experiencing toy shops, eating apples and the wearing of a hat, gloves and scarf in the winter for the first time. Even now she dislikes riding on escalators! Anna has taught English and Drama in schools and told stories in toddler groups, but it was for friends in her church that she first wrote this story.
