Closing the Back Door of the Church

Closing the Back Door of the Church

by RonKallmier (Author)

Synopsis

With many churches declining numerically in the Western world, CWR Director of Training Ron Kallmier ran a workshop entitled `Closing the Back Door of the Church'. To his surprise, four times the number expected showed up and he has repeated the course several times to date. Fellow tutor Andy Peck has taken the workshop material and added fresh insights and examples to deliver a book to inform believers affected by the present trends, whether they have attended the workshop or not. The book looks at why people leave local churches, why people leave the Church as a whole and what leaders and church members can do to prevent and stem the losses. It concludes that we need not be fearful of trends continuing but can, God helping us, adjust our sails to enable the Spirit to lead us speedily through the present choppy waters to become churches that serve believers and those not yet in the kingdom.

Author Bio
Ron Kallmier, the Director of Training for CWR, is an experienced Australian teacher, counsellor and pastor. A graduate of Sydney & Macquarie Universities in Sydney, he has served as a high school pastor, teacher and counsellor, and as a denominational leader when, for ten years, he was Director of Christian Education and Youth Ministry in NSW. Before his first term as Senior Tutor with CWR in 1998-2000, Ron conducted a private counselling practice in Sydney at DaySpring Church, where, on his return to Sydney, he served as one of the pastoral team for five years, until returning to CWR early in 2006. His background in teaching at primary, secondary and tertiary levels, and his experience in local church pastoral ministry, blend with his academic training and experience in Christian Ministry, Education and Psychology. Ron brings many years of hands on experience into some of the key areas of CWR's ministry. Ron and his wife, Jeanette, have three daughters and three young grandsons. Arriving at CWR at a time of major transition, he has found there is a great opportunity to develop and strengthen the excellent work that has been done in the CWR area of Training and Events, which he now leads. Andy Peck is a writer, trainer and Bible teacher who has worked with student groups and churches in the south of England and spent seven years as an editor with Christianity magazine. A tutor at CWR, he hosts the 'Leadership File' on Premier Christian Radio. He lives in Surrey with his wife Nic and is a keen follower of golf and Everton FC.
