Media Reviews
Is this book 'the one' that people sitting the Part A have been yearning for? Having spent a few weeks looking through Mastering Public Health, comparing it with my experiences of Part A and my revision notes, I would say an (almost) unqualified 'yes'. Mastering Public Health is intended as a 'one stop shop' textbook for people sitting their MFPH Part A - something which didn't previously exist. For those lucky individuals taking MRCP and many of the other Royal College exams there have been comprehensive revision texts available for years, but here in the world of public health the notion has taken a while to catch on. Fortunately Lewis and colleagues have brought the field to its senses, with a succinct yet comprehensive guide to the whole Part A syllabus.

Amazon customer review, Aug 2008

This book is an excellent guide to the contents of the Public Health syllabus is an absolute must read for those preparing for the Part A membership examinations. The book is also recommended for those embarking on a Msc in Public Health or related subject, and is of equal relevance to more senior and experienced Public Health experts, as it provides and easy guide to update or expand on existing knowledge. This book is an excellent guide full of clear examples and references for further reading.

5 Stars: Invaluable revision resource
I found Mastering Public Health an invaluable revision resource when preparing for the Faculty of Public Health Part A membership examination.

The book is excellently structured to follow the Faculty of Public Health Part A syllabus. This was a sensible choice by the authors because it ensures the book serves as a great 'dip in and out of resource' which can be used to guide and support revision into different sections of the syllabus.

The authors state our aim throughout the book has been to strike a balance somewhere between brief lecture notes and a full-prose text book. The book definitely leans more to the former, which is no bad thing, because it keeps it relatively concise and each chapter comes with a list of 'further reading' so it is always clear to the reader where to go to gain more in-depth knowledge of a subject.
