Author Bio
Paul Hindle was a Senior Lecturer in Geography at Salford University until his (very) early retirement in 2000. He is Hon. Secretary of the Manchester Geographical Society. His interest in Lakeland and its roads grew from walking the Lakeland fells. He has written widely on roads and old maps, including two standard texts: Maps for Historians and Roads and Tracks for Historians, both published by Phillimore. His other books include Medieval Roads and Tracks and Medieval Town Plans (Shire Archaeology). He also wrote the text for the CWAAS reprints of the 1770s county maps of Cumberland & Westmorland by Donald & Jefferys respectively.
