Langtang, Gosainkund and Helambu: A Trekker's Guide (Cicerone Guide)

Langtang, Gosainkund and Helambu: A Trekker's Guide (Cicerone Guide)

by KevReynolds (Author)

Synopsis

A guidebook describing 5 main treks of up to a week in the Himalaya's Langtang National Park region in Nepal, also Gosainkund and Helambu. There is no finer way of getting to know Nepal than by discarding the burdens of Western society, wandering her trails and growing receptive to her charms. Trekking holds the key to a wealth of experience, and Nepal will repay tenfold all your labours. This book covers two relatively small regions of this land of Shangri-La, Latang and Helambu, linked by the sacred lakes of Gosainkund. Easily reached from Kathmandu they hold a rich diversity of landscape, culture and vegetation. The first is a high, seemingly remote valley running parallel with the Tibetan border and flanked by lofty mountains; the second is more populous, with verdant hillsides, a benevolent climate and several prosperous villages, while the lakes of Gosainkund are trapped in wild country wedged between the two. Packed with useful information for both independent and group trekkers, plus over 20 trekking routes, glossary and bibliography, this is another outstanding trekkers' guide by Kev Reynolds to add to those on Annapurna and Everest.

Media Reviews
''Kev' (as the much-thumbed guide was inevitably nicknamed) proved essential throughout the trip. Detailed route descriptions, distances and timings for different sections aided daily planning, while the excellent colour and black and white pictures helped us (and Nima the sirdar) keep track of progress - and proved a great ice-breaker with fascinated youngsters in the scattered Langtang villages. ... If you're heading for this area ... this guide is as essential a part of your kit as Lomotil and Fuji Provia. Take a spare copy for your Sherpa guide.' (John Manning, TGO) 'This is an excellent guide, good colour pics, all the information about both Nepal and the treks in the area you want - but what else do we expect from Kev?' (Joss Lynam, Irish Mountain Log)
