The author examines the ritualistic aspects of Viking warfare, such as the naming of swords and the passing of swords from father to son. There is detailed information on the tactical aspects of Viking warfare, such as the construction of forts and the existence of Viking standing armies of full-time soldiers. Finally the author attempts to convey a sense of the way in which their warrior lifestyle permeated the whole of Viking life. He describes the sacrificing of animals, which was an integral part of Viking pagan belief, and describes their bloodsports.
