  This book is taken from a series which introduces the reader to people who help the community through the jobs that they perform. Each book focuses on an individual member of the featured public or emergency services; the experiences of their working day are used to illustrate the importance of their role in the community. Wherever possible, care has been taken to make those experiences relevent to those of the reader. In this book, the reader meets Sharon and Ron who work together in an ambulance. The authors explain what happens when the crew receive a 999 call and how the ambulance crews keep in contact with the control centre. The authors use a series of incidents to illustrate the variety of work that the crews perform: they take a pregnant lady to hospital to have her baby and then race off to help a mechanic who has been injured at work. It also shows the ways in which the crews and hospital staff work together to help people who are hurt.
